To register for your Computer Science Lab account**:

  • Sign the faculty sponsorship list in every CS class you are taking. If you do not sign the list, you cannot get an account. Students taking multiple classes will need to have their quotas adjusted based on these lists.
  • Bring your UR ID card. It will be coded to use for door access. You cannot get an account without a valid UR ID card.
  • Read the Policies & Procedures handout prior to coming to my office to get an account. You will sign a form indicating your understanding of the rules and your compliance with these rules. You can clarify any of the rules when you come to see me.
  • See Marty Guenther in 735 Computer Studies Bldg. DO NOT come directly after class, or in big groups. Hours are 8:30-4:30 M-F. Mornings are less crowded.
  • Think of a password before you come. It must be 8 characters, use some special characters (numbers or !?*^%$) and cannot be found in a dictionary in any language! It can be longer than 8, but only the first 8 count. Have 2 ready just in case it doesn't accept the first one.
  • Be prepared to take 10-15 minutes per person.
  • You will be having your picture taken for your webpage. If you care how you look, come prepared.
  • If you are renewing your account from last semester, you still need to come to my office to re-set your password. Your account will be deleted if not renewed two weeks from the start of the new semester.

**Only registered students in upper level CS classes (173 or above) and majors who have completed all pre-major requirements and concentration paperwork are eligible to get accounts on the CS server.
