UG Team Advances to ACM Programming World Finals, beating MIT

November 2, 2009

The undergraduate team of Ian Christopher '10, Dennis Huo '10, and Xiaoqing Tang '12 won the ACM-ICPC Regional programming competition at RIT on Saturday, October 31st.  As a result, they will advance to the World Finals, to be held in Harbin, China, February 1-6, 2010.  This will be UR's first appearance at the World Finals.

The Yellowjackets team finished ahead of MIT, Harvard, McGill and Brown, all powerhouse computer science programs.  Only two teams solved all eight problems, (UR and MIT), but UR's team completed the problems in less time. Last year this team finished 3rd at the Regionals, behind MIT and McGill.
