Kautz brings Intel's Science and Technology Center to UR

September 28, 2011

Intel announced yesterday that the University of Rochester Department of Computer Science will be one of several university partners in its latest Science and Technology Center.  Henry Kautz, chair of Computer Science, will lead UR's Pervasive Computing group.

This fall, Henry Kautz is teaching a new course in Pervasive Computing.  Students in his class are focused on high tech gadgets, the computers in our everyday lives, instead of a textbook. They are hacking devices such as a roomba robot, a Kinect, an Xbox360, a smart phone, a drone quad helicopter and arduino toolkit to see how they work and how these devices can grow into smarter and more useful technologies.  Kautz's students will be on the cutting edge of development for the next generation of these technologies.
