Presenters should plan on 15-20 minutes of speaking time.
An LCD projector will be available. Contact me if you want to use
it but don't have a laptop of your own to plug into it.
48 hours prior to class, presenters must provide me with a
link to an on-line copy of suggested background reading material.
This should require a maximum of 30 minutes to read and understand.
I will post the reading assignment to the newsgroup and the schedule page on the web.
All students must read the assigned material prior to class.
I reserve the right to give a quiz on it.
All non-presenters must write a report, due before class on Thursday
Jan. 22. Turn in by emailing to the professor. Reports
should be PDF or plain Ascii, and may be just a few pages in
The corpus collection and analysis group is not making a
presentation, but their written reports will be distributed to the
entire class. They should not only collect spam (as much of it as
possible, from as many sources as possible -- among other things, I
recommend soliciting it from the rest of the class), they must also
analyze it: What techniques does it appear to employ?
Who does it appear to be from? What does its purpose seem to be /
what does it seem to be trying to get people to do? What else can
we say about it?
