Description of the Data used in this demonstration

Stereo Setup

Two cameras are manually positionned vertically with parallel optical axes. We thus expect that the epipolar lines are vertically oriented and parallel to each other.

Data

Two pairs of stereo images are taken:
*Image pair with calibration apparatus (the two-plane model)
*

*
You can download this image pair in PGM format by clicking here and there.

*Image pair of a natural environment (Rock scene)
*

*

Remark

This example is rather an extreme to show the benefit of our approach. The calibration apparatus is small in the image pair used for calibration, and that's why, as we will say later, the classical technique gives rather very bad calibration results.
