Political Songs

Of one sort and another.
Generally inspired by current events.
Some age better than others...

The great year Y2K
A bit rude, but in the spirit of the time
We do like catching our public figures with their pants down...

Oh Hillary Don't You Weep

Tune: Oh Mary Don't You Weep

(Refrain)
Oh Hillary don't you weep, don't you mourn.
Oh Hillary don't you weep, don't you mourn.
Monika almost got drownd-ed.
Oh Hillary don't you weep.

If I could I surely would,
Stand in the hall where Clinton stood.
Monika almost got drownd-ed.
Oh Hillary don't you weep.

(refrain)

Ken Starr stood at the White House door,
Whopping Bill Clinton with a two-by-four.
Monika almost got drownd-ed.
Oh Hillary don't you weep.

(refrain)

Old Bill Clinton used this line:
I'll suck yours' if you'll suck mine.
Monika almost got drownd-ed.
Oh Hillary don't you weep.

(refrain)

Ken Starr plays with whips and chains,
Dreams of dresses with semen stains.
Monika almost got drownd-ed.
Oh Hillary don't you weep.

(refrain)

If like Clinton you'd go far,
Walk soft and carry a big cigar.
Monika almost got drownd-ed.
Oh Hillary don't you weep.

(refrain)

Etc. etc.

Sept. 11, 2001 was a shock.
With a human tragedy to big to comprehend,
one mourns the landmarks.

The Towers of Morning

Tune: The Bonney Earl of Morrey

Did your eyes see the sight,
Did your ears hear the sound,
When they smote the towers of morning,
And laid them on the ground?
Once they stood tall and gallant,
And they touched first the dawn,
Oh the mighty towers of morning,
To memory they are gone.

They rose in the sky,
O'er the streets and the strand,
A proud city's pride,
In a proud people's land.
They stood through wind and storm,
In summer's heat, in winter's cold,
And the setting sun at evening,
Turned the towers into gold.

On a bright September morning,
From a sky washed blue by rain,
To each tower a poisoned phoenix,
Stooped down in mortal pain.
And as flame all-consuming,
Rose from each funeral pyre,
A standard black, unfurling,
Proclaimed a deadly ire.

The lady of the island,
Still stands across the bay,
And she sees beyond the ashes,
To a place no sorrows stray.
A land fair and gallant,
And unstained by the years,
Where stand the towers of morning,
Undimmed by human tears.

So here we all are, post 9/11/2001,
running around like chickens with our heads cut off,
with the full aid and approval of the federal government,
while others take advantage of the situation for their own purposes.

Anthrax

Tune: original.
(medium blues)

Well there's bugs in the water,
And there's bugs in the air.
They say all of us citizens,
Had better beware.
(refrain)
Cause we got anthrax.
Go get the Ajax.
I gotta scrub my kitchen clean.

Now old Bob Stevans
Took a walk in the park.
He caught that anthrax,
And was dead by dark.
(refrain)
Yeah he got anthrax.
Go get the Ajax.
Gotta scrub that park bench clean.

Mary, Mary opened up
A letter one day.
Got anthrax on her hands,
And they rotted away.
(refrain) She got anthrax.
Got get the Ajax.
Gotta scrub that mailroom clean.

Hey Bill Gates!
Now what you gonna do?
That ain't no computer virus,
That they're sending to you.
(spoken)
... No man, it's anthrax.
... The bug, man.
... The biological agent.
(sung)
Better wipe your hard drive clean.

Something's going round in Congress,
And it ain't hot air.
It's that anthrax bug,
And it's giving them a scare.
(refrain)
Yeah they got anthrax.
Go get the Ajax.
Gotta scrub that Capitol clean.

Now the postmaster general's
A big fat man.
He says we're cleaning up that anthrax,
Good as anyone can.
(spoken)
... Yeah.
... We got compressed air.
... OK everybody.
... Take a deep breath.
... Now BLOW it out.
... All-right!
... I think you've got it!

Well he's got no name,
But he's got a jar.
He's gonna shake that anthrax
In the subway car.
(refrain)
Yeah he's got anthrax.
Go get the Ajax.
Gotta scrub that old subway clean.

Gonna get me some medicine,
Big white pills.
Gotta save my children
From the anthrax chills.
(refrain)
Don't want no anthrax.
(pause)
I got my Ajax.
(spoken)
... And my Cipro.
... And my respirator.
... And my airtight, rubberized, teflon suit.
... And my boots.
(sung)
Gonna scrub my kitchen clean.

(final)

Anthrax...

Anthrax...

Scrub my whole world clean...

On the news that local employer Kodak
is closing its disposable camera production facility
and building a new one in China,
continuing a 20-year decline in Rochester.

The Jobs are Going to China

Tune: The Bear went over the Mountain

The jobs are going to China,
The jobs are going to China,
The jobs are going to China,
Where labor's almost free.

Where labor's almost free,
Where labor's almost free,

Let's send the bosses to China,
Let's send the bosses to China,
Let's send the bosses to China,
And let them work for free.

As lurch into 2003 with the economy in a shambles,
and civil liberties under attack on every front,
it seems our Commander in Chief
is obsessed with waging war on Saddam Huessein
with justification (real or fabricated)
and international support (voluntary or coerced)
if possible, but without either if need be.
In some circles it is the "because we couldn't catch Osama" war.
With North Korea,
which really does seem to be building nuclear weapons,
we are, of course negotiating.
This could some additional verses,
but maybe bombing Saddam is all we need...

Bomb Saddam

Tune: It's a Small World.

We will bomb Saddam
And attack Iraq.
We will stuff his head
In a gunny sack.
We will slaughter his sons
And his daughters with guns.
We'll attack, attack, Iraq!!

(Chorus)
Bomb Saddam, attack Iraq!
Bomb Saddam, attack Iraq!
Bomb Saddam, attack Iraq!
We'll attack Iraq!
