CSC 200 Assignment: DMCA research
Background research:
Find a copy of the full text of the Digital Millenium Copyright Act,
and study it as it pertains to the case of Jon Johansen and the
DeCSS DVD decryption code that was tried a couple years back in Norway.
Also research the specifics of the case (what was done and by whom, what
charges were brought and by whom, what the Norwegian laws were, etc.)
We will be running a (mock) retrial under American law next Tuesday (Feb 1).
Thursday (January 27) is preparation/planning day.
Bring documents to class. You may need them.

The Trial or Spectacle will procede approximately as follows
- Opening statement by prosecution, 2 minutes
- Opening statement by defense, 2 minutes
- Presentation of case and witnesses by prosecution,
Limit, 10 minutes, plus 2 minutes cross examination time
for each witness.
- Presentation of case and witnesses by defense,
Limit, 10 minutes, plus 2 minutes cross examination time
for each witness.
- Closing statement by prosecution, 2 minutes.
- Closing statement by defense, 2 minutes.
- Jury deliberation, 20-30 minutes.
